Accessibility is important to us too. This is why all OU students have equal access to event listings and free food postings whether they go, whether they are at a computer or not. Free Food at OU has its content on virtually all mobile platforms including Android, iPhone and basic HTML based browsers including those of the Blackberry and Symbian OS.
Students may subscribe to receive free food updates via text message by texting “follow freeoaklandu” to 40404 (standard text messaging rates apply). Text message subscribers can turn the service off by replying “off” to 40404 at any time.
The food being given away actually comes out of the students tuition. A very small percentage, something like 3%, is given to the Student Activities Funding Board (SAFB) each year for allocation to the 200+ student organization around campus. Student organizations use these funds regularly to finance events on campus. Its often used to pay for things like event advertising, DJs, equipment rental, and FOOD.
All events on campus must be “Free and Open to ALL OU Students” in order to use up these funds. Subsequently, these are the only types of events that we post. This is why if you see it here you know its free, and OU students will know- its up for the taking!
